Port Authority Bus Terminal

I explored the contrast between a person moving vs a person watching the movement in Port Authority. I wanted to illustrate the relationship people have with the space, focusing on two types of people: a commuter and a homeless person.

For my desktop (remote) version, I wanted to have the user go through a commuter phase and a homeless phase. Both phases consist of video and audio snippets from PABT. The commuter section shows the commuter moving through the space, getting coffee, going to the subway, or coming back to get their bus. The audio recordings have a white background, showing a more positive, light, and luminous experience. It then transitions into the homeless perspective. There is a very dark and depressing ambiance that this phase gives off. The video snippets are very yellow and dirty looking, while the audio recordings have a black background, representing the dark, depressing, and isolated world of PABT that they inhabit.

For my mobile (local) version, I wanted the user, who is in PABT with an iPhone, to recognize their place in PABT as a commuter and eventually understand or recognize the homeless who live there. The experience prompts the users with small tasks, such as finding certain gates, finding a spot based on a gif or sound. As the user goes through the pages, they become stuck and can't get on a bus to leave. They try to click out, but it guides them in an endless circle, trapping the user in the space, emulating a homeless person being trapped in the bus terminal.
